2 Reasons To Replace Your Locks When You Move Into A New Home

When you move into a new home, you have a lot of different things you need to take care of. One of the first things you should take care of is replacing the external locks to the home with new locks. This will help ensure your new home is secured and will give you an opportunity to upgrade to some higher quality locks.

Reason #1: Secure the Home

When you move into a new home, the first phone call you should make on your move-in date is to a locksmith. You should never move your personal belongings into a new home without having a locksmith come by and change the locks or rekey the locks.

The truth is that you don't really know who has keys to your new house. The previous tenant or owner may have given you the keys that they have, but they may not have given you all the copies of their keys. They also more than likely didn't get back the spare keys they may have handed out over the years. It is perfectly natural to give friends or family members a spare key to your home. Even if the previous tenant or owner tried to give you all the key copies out there, you just can't know for sure if you have them all. That is why you need to change or rekey the locks.

By changing or rekeying the locks, you will know with certainty that only you and your family members have the only keys to the home. This will help ensure that your belongings are safe from day one in your new home.

Reason #2: Upgrade Your Locks

Another reason to change the locks when you move into a new home is that this gives you an opportunity to install better locks on your home. If the home you are moving into wasn't built in the last few years, there is a good chance that the locks on the home are not the best locks you could have.

A professional locksmith can look at your doors and determine the best high-grade quality locks to put on your home.

They can install Grade 1 or Grade 2 locks on your doors. Grade 1 locks are the highest security locks that you can get. Grade 1 locks are usually used on commercial buildings but can also be used on residential homes. Grade 2 locks are also higher quality than most standard residential locks.

If you just moved into a new home, one of your first calls should be to your locksmith. Your locksmith can help you secure your home with the best possible locks. This is a necessary step when moving into a new home so you can claim the home as yours and ensure no previous occupants are able to get back in.

About Me

Keeping Your Home Secure

After our neighborhood experienced a string of burglaries, I started thinking more carefully about our door locks. I realized that a few of our doors had older, outdated hardware, which might leave our home vulnerable to thieves. To ward off trouble, I invited a professional locksmith out to our house to replace our locks. After talking with me about all of the different types of locks on the market, he made a recommendation based on what kind of door we had. We settled on a really nice electronic deadbolt, and after it was installed we felt a lot better. Read more about home security and locks on this blog.
